Interview Prep Tips

The Interview

You are being interviewed because the employer wants to hire people - not because he wants to trip you up or embarrass you.

Throughout the interview the employer will be searching for your strong and weak points, evaluating you on your qualifications, skills and intellectual qualities, and he/she will probably probe deeply to determine your attitudes, aptitudes, stability, motivation and maturity.

Also, understand you may be being interviewed by an inexperienced interviewer, so be prepared for unusual questions or awful questions. "Tell me about yourself; Why are you better than the other candidates I have met; I am very busy, why should I interview you?" (refrain from calling this person an idiot or worse!)

Never lose sight of why you are there, recognise it as a selling situation, they are the buyer and you are the seller. Understand that the product you are selling is you so sell yourself on your features/benefits. But don't be boring, arrogant or forget to listen!

Selling Process: Interviewing Process

Introduction : Introduction.

Find their need : Find their need by asking open ended questions, who, why, what, how, when.

Fulfil their need : Fulfil their needs by selling yourself to fit their requirements or match your abilities to abilities required.

Isolate/overcome objections : Isolate/overcome any objections they have about you and your ability to be able to do the job.

Close : Confirm you are very interested in the role and smile.

GOOD LUCK!

NB: It is not good practice, but the more 'challenging' an interview the more likely you will be offered the role...crazy but true!
